About NepDate
NepDate is a family of open source libraries and apps for the Bikram Sambat (BS) calendar, the official calendar of Nepal. It answers the same question the same way in every language: which day is it, in BS and in AD.
What it is
- Libraries for 14 languages: C#, TypeScript, Python, PHP, Java, Dart, Kotlin, Go, Swift, C++, C, Rust, Ruby, and Zig. Each converts between BS and AD for every day from BS 1901 to 2199, formats and parses dates in Nepali and English, and works with months, ranges and fiscal years. A separate patro package adds tithi, public holidays and events. See the documentation.
- A free online patro at patro.nepdate.com, with a page for every month and day.
- MitiBar, a desktop calendar for Windows, macOS and Linux.
Where it comes from
NepDate started from the C# NepDate library, which remains the reference: every other language is tested against answers recorded from it. The calendar data and the specification live once, in the hub repository, and every language builds from that copy. Where the month lengths, tithi and holidays come from is written down in Data and credits.
How it is run
NepDate is maintained in the open on GitHub by its contributors. All code is MIT licensed, every change goes through a public pull request with tests in each language, and releases are published to each language's own registry from those repositories. There is no company, paid tier or advertising behind it. The MitiBar source is public too.
What it is not
NepDate is not affiliated with the Government of Nepal. Holiday and tithi data is informational: for an official notice, check the government's own publication. To report a wrong date, or to reach the project, see Contact.
